If you want to verify the authenticity of the silk, we recommend a simple test. Extract a few yarns from the fabric edge and put them on a flame. Genuine silk will smell like burning hair and produce a black, powdery ash. It will stop burning immediately when removed from the flame. On the other hand, synthetic fibers, such as polyester, will smell like burning plastic, produce black smoke, and leave a black ball of residue. Cotton or viscose will smell like burning paper.
